East Literature Magnet is distinct and unique in several ways:

East Literature Magnet is in its ninth year as a standalone school. With a total population of 1,100, we continue to grow each year.

What Does Our School Offer?
East Literature Magnet opened its doors in the fall of 1993 as a school-within-a-school on the campus of East Middle School. This literature-based program provides the skills for life that are grounded in the written word and part of a framework of cultural diversity and interdisciplinary teaching. The nucleus of instruction is literary.
High standards for behavior, integrity, and achievement are required. The school asks for community involvement by all its students. Students interested in being a part of this program should enjoy reading and have a desire to be a strong communicator.
Who Attends Our School?
Any student who lives in Davidson County may apply to attend East Magnet through the lottery. The school has a geographic priority zone (GPZ) allowing 30%of available seats to students residing in this area. All students interested in attending a magnet school must submit applications prior to the deadline. The lottery is held after the winter holidays. For more information, call 259-INFO.
Community Partners
The East Nashville High School Alumni house is located on our campus and serves as the headquarters for one of the largest alumni organizations in the nation. Our renovated buildings are built on the legacy left by the many former students who became pioneers and leaders in business, government, entertainment, and the military. Today, the alumni provide support for our campus and students. Scholarships are provided each year to selected students.
Before/After School Care
The East Nashville YMCA provides after school care for our students. The program begins immediately after school and goes until 6:00.
PENCIL Partners
PENCIL Foundation, a nonprofit organization, links community resources with Nashville public schools. A PENCIL Partner is a business or other community organization that teams up with a Metro school to volunteer time and donate resources that promote student success.
