What Makes Our School Unique?
Mt. View has a variety of special musical and arts programs that enhance student vocabulary and confidence. The Kindergarten and Grade 1 S.M.A.R.T. (Stimulating Maturity Through Accelerated Readiness) program began during the 2006-2007 school year. S.M.A.R.T. is an action-based learning lab and brain gym approach in physical education that is based on the multiple intelligences theories of Gradiner.
Mt. View is also home to the only Tae Kwon Do program in an elementary school in the State of Tennessee. In 2008, 23 students earned a second degree black belt and six more earned a first degree black belt.
The Renaissance Kids, a special musical group composed of recorder players in Grades 3-5, have performed at National Educational Conferences, the Renaissance Fair, Vanderbilt University and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Band (Grade 5 only), guitars and jazz band are all special offerings for students. Mt. View has the only elementary drama program in MNPS.
Research indicates that students who are engaged in special programs enjoy school and feel a connection to the school community. These positive experiences will continue to have a positive effect on achievement. Parent survey results indicate that parents appreciate the opportunity to see their children perform. |
