              About Pre-Kindergarten in MNPS

Questions and answers

  1.   I have a three year old, where can my child attend school?

MNPS Blended Programs will accept three year old children, but priority is given to the four year old children.  Three year olds are also admitted through the lottery process to Hull-Jackson and Stanford Montessori Schools.

  2.   My child does not turn four until October 1, where can my child attend school this year?

Unfortunately, your child will not be eligible for Pre-K.  A student must turn four by September 30th of the current school year in order to be eligible for Pre-K.

  3.   I do not qualify for the free lunch program, can my child attend anyway?

Yes, your child can register to attend any local Pre-K program.  There is a fee, based on a sliding scale, for children enrolled in local Pre-Kindergarten classrooms.

  4.   How much will I have to pay?

Pre-Kindergarten fees can range from $16 to $128 based on your income.

  5.   What do I need to bring to show proof of income?

In order to show proof of income, the following items are accepted: 1040 form (the form you filed for federal income tax), Food Stamp number, or Family First number.

  6.   Will I bring my child to school with me to register?

No. You will come and register your child and get a time to report for your child’s assessment.  You will come back to the school for a fifteen minute orientation for the parent and a fifteen minute assessment for your child.  You must bring your child for this assessment.

  7.   What do I need to take to register my child?

The following items are needed to register your child:

physical (within six months of school starting)
Social Security card or number (for the child)
proof of address (proof that you live in Davidson County)

  8.   I was looking at information on your Web page and I noticed some schools were listed under more than one program. Why?

MNPS has more than one type of Pre-Kindergarten program in some school sites.

  9.   I live in Wilson County but work in Davidson County; can my child attend Pre-Kindergarten in Davidson County?

No, you must live in Davidson County in order to be eligible.

10.   When will families know if their child is selected for a Pre-Kindergarten class?

You will receive a letter as soon as possible.  If you have secured other daycare arrangements, do not give up day care until you receive a letter from the school telling you that your child was assigned to an MNPS Pre-Kindergarten classroom.  Children that are not placed at the current time will be placed on a waiting list or will be referred to another Pre-Kindergarten program.

11.   I presently live in Williamson County but I am moving to Davidson County.  Can my child sign up for Pre-Kindergarten?

No, you must live in Davidson County at the time of registration.

12.   Is transportation provided?

Transportation for Pre-K students is NOT provided by MNPS.  Parents are responsible for bringing and picking up their child.
