Needed Changes in Enhanced Option Enrollment Guidelines

The Napier GPZ is zoned to Hickman and Ruby Major. Currently, the children at Napier Enhanced Option may opt to attend these schools or they may remain at Napier. As an enhanced option, new students who move into the Napier GPZ, a highly mobile community, would be assigned to either Ruby Major or Hickman after the opening of school. We believe we need to keep the option of Napier open for these children and their families throughout the year. This is a change in practice for optional schools but it seems appropriate for schools such as Napier and Buena Vista since they have students nearby who may want to choose these schools all year.

Therefore, the administration plans to allow new students who move into the Napier GPZ at anytime during the school year to remain zoned to Hickman or Ruby Major, but to allow them to enroll in Napier if they choose. Additionally, students new to the Metro Center area at anytime during the school year will have the option of attending their zoned school or enrolling in Buena Vista.
