RE:

Board Letter - August 26, 2005

DR. SANDY JOHNSON, CHIEF INSTRUCTIONAL OFFICER

Letter to Dr. Carolyn Tucker Regarding Ruby Payne Expenses

I have attached copies of the letter and spreadsheet sent to Dr. Carolyn Tucker regarding
the expenses for Ruby Payne and the justification for the use of Title I funds.  As you
can see, the entire program was very cost effective as it was less than $45.00 for
each person including the books, food, rental of facility, security, etc.

To put all the costs and planning in perspective, one of our teacher’s summed up the
benefits very effectively in a letter I received.  She said we should imagine what we
could do if each person present at Ruby Payne impacted just one family/child in a
more positive way this year, then we could make a difference in 6,000 children’s lives.
The costs seem small for that benefit.

CHRIS HENSON, ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR BUSINESS AND FACILITY SERVICES

Joe A. Edgens, Executive Director, Facilities and Operations

Update on the Land Search for High School in Antioch Cluster - The meeting with the
property owner’s agent, mentioned in last week’s letter, went well. The property
owners have an interest in selling. They are concerned that they not be “cut off”
from the remainder of the 245 acres since we will only be buying 45 to 50 acres.
We have designed a schematic layout for the development of the school portion
of the property showing how a road could be dedicated to allow access to the
remaining portion of their site. We will meet next week to review this approach
and then begin to work on all the many details of due diligence in determining if
acquiring the land is viable for both parties. At this point, the site has promise,
but additional investigation is planned.

On a second site we are investigating, at Battle Road, Metro Water has responded
and noted that a pumping station and force main would have to be built.
