DR. SANDY JOHNSON, CHIEF INSTRUCTIONAL OFFICER
Social Studies Projects Fair an Overwhelming Success!
The halls and cafeteria of McGavock High School were filled to capacity on Saturday, April 30, for the
2005 Social Studies Projects Fair. This year’s number of entries was up from last year with over 460
projects entered. Judges had a tough time deciding on the top projects in each category. Many
teachers and students’ hard work made this year’s fair a fun and successful event.
This year’s awards ceremonies had an extra special element: Ralph E. Raccoon, mascot of the
Tennessee State Museum. In between the divisional ceremonies, Ralph E. entertained and led the
audience in doing his favorite activity—the Chicken Dance! Several students joined Ralph E. on stage
as their parents watched and danced in the auditorium! The top finishers in each category also had
their pictures made with Ralph E.
Next year, grades 6 through 8 will compete in the National History Day competition instead of the
Projects Fair. We will provide more information about a History Day workshop to be held on Friday, September 9, 2005.
Anyone who would like more information about this event may contact Todd Wigginton, Social Studies Coordinator.
