Course Description
This course is a continuation of Piano III. Repertory and technical studies will be adapted to the capabilities of the student. There will be a continued use of the electronic piano lab. Students should have a piano available at home for practice.
Course of Study
o Major triads with numbers in root position
o Major triads with starting from the third, fifth
o Literature at a difficulty level of 3 - 4 by memory
o Simple accompaniment to a choral octavo
o Add pitches to a given piece of music with only rhythmic values of notes
o Using a variety of complex variations on a given melody
o A simple, two-phrase melody using I, IV, V7 chords with modulation
o Write a simple accompaniment
o Key signatures, more complex rhythmic patterns and common symbols
o A variety of piano repertoire at a minimum difficulty level of 3 - 4 sight-reading
o Identify musical characteristics of a given composer
o Compare and contrast the keyboard music of various style periods
o The musical elements within a given work that make it unique and expressive
o Document in writing, pianists and/or composers and the respective keyboard genres for which they are famous.
- Understanding relationships between music and other disciplines
o Present a musical work of a given composer and trace its origins to a work of art, poetry, literature, etc.
o Trace one musical element and its use within one or more disciplines outside the arts
