In order to develop strength, flexibility, and endurance needed at this level, students must review all movements learned previously and practice in various combinations.
· Barre
o Pliés in all positions with various port de bras and stretches in all directions with feet flat on floor and with tendu in all directions.
o The use of croisé, effacé, and écarté will be used throughout barre, sparingly.
o The following skills will be done at an accelerated tempo:
§ Battement tendu
§ Battement tendu double
§ Battement tendu jeté
§ Rond de jambe par terre
o The following skills will be done on flat and on demi pointe:
§ Battement frappé (single and double),
§ Petit battement sur le cou de pied
§ Rond de jambe en l’air
§ Grand battement
o The following skills will be done with emphasis on completely stretched thighs, knees, ankles, and toes:
§ Battement soutenu
§ Pas de cheval
§ Battement fondu
§ Battement developpé passé
§ Battement relevé lent
§ Rond de jambe en l’air at 90 degrees
§ Battement tendu pour batterie
§ Balances on two legs on demi pointe in all positions
§ Balance in retiré
§ Balance with leg extended devant and a là seconde at 45 and 90 degrees
§ Balance in arabesque at 45, 60, and 90 degrees
· Center
o Temps lié adagio (toe off floor and at 60-90 degrees)
o Promenade in arabesque (1st and 2nd)
o All movements done at the barre will be performed in the center.
o Body positions will be used (croisé, effacé, and écarté).
o Use of 1/4 turns with various exercises will be emphasized.
o Single piqué tours en dehors and en dedans
o Assemblé soutenu tours (straight across floor)
o Chaînés (2 in 1 count each, 3 or 4 in 2 counts)
o Single pirouette en dehors from 5th and 4th positions (with various arms)
o Single pirouette en dedans from 5th and 4th positions (with various arms)
o Double pirouette en dehors from 4th position
o Double pirouette en dedans from 4th position
o Piqué tours and chaînés en ménage (with various arms)
o 4-8 relevés in all arabesques, finishing with faillé
o 4 relevés in attitude finishing with allongé arabesque
o Pas de bourrée straight and turning (in all positions)
· Allegro
o Chassé relevé into all arabesques with faillé
o Temps levé in 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th positions
o Changement de pieds en face, with 1/4 and 1/2 turns, and with epaulement from croisé to croisé
o Grand échappé sauté to 2nd and 4th positions
o Glissades ( all directions and body positions)
o Assemblés (all directions and body positions)
o Sissones (all directions and body positions)
o Petit jeté (over and under)
o Simple sissones
o Sissone through cou de pied
o Sauté arabesque
o Sauté retiré derrière
o Pas de chat in combination with other grand allegro skills
o Échappé (sliding)
o Pas de bourrée over and under (together, landing in 5th position, turning, and through cou de pied)

Reading: In addition to reading teacher handouts, students are expected to read from a variety of sources including articles and biographies on history, terminology, injury prevention, and basic anatomy. Students are expected to gain literal understanding of readings and also to interpret, analyze, and evaluate information from the readings.
Writing: Students are expected to apply correct ballet terminology in written and oral communication. Suggested written assignments include journals, critiques, document‑based questions, and dance notation.
