Course Description
This course is offered for continued training after the completion of Advanced Jazz I. The student is expected to perform at a pre-professional level. Students will be expected to participate in extra rehearsals and performances. Students will work on choreographic skills as well as partnering.
Course of study
· Warm-up
- Students will isolate head, shoulders, rib cage, and hips
- Students will perform various lateral stretches and lunges to warm up large muscle groups
- Students will work on technical exercises: plies, tendus, degages, and developpes
- Students will do strengthening exercises to increase muscle strength
- Students will do stretching exercises to increase flexibility
- Students will work on splits
- Students will perform more difficult adagio exercises
· Across-the-floor
- Students will perform advanced exercises at increasingly faster speeds.
- Students will develop coordination and skill-building by repeating the combinations numerous times
· Combination
- Students will learn different advanced combinations each week
- Students will should expect to pick up the choreography quickly
· College/Career Preparation
- Students will develop a resume
- Students will research colleges with dance programs
- Students will research dance companies
- Students will learn how to audition
Reading
Students will read from a variety of sources including teacher handouts, articles, biographies and related books. They are expected to gain literal understanding of terminology and historical facts. Students are expected to interpret, analyze and evaluate information from the readings.
Writing: Suggested written assignments include vocabulary lists, essays, journals, and research papers.
