Course Description

 

This course is designed to study acting styles using the various techniques accompanying each style.  Styles ranging from classical to contemporary drama will be studied and performed.  (This course is only approved for the Nashville School of the Arts at this time.)

 

Course of Study

 

  • Character Development
    • Read/Analyze/Incorporate the techniques of Constantin Stanislavski (An Actor Prepares)
    • Character Analysis
    • Objectives and Goals, Obstacles, Beats within a scene

 

  • Movement
    • Physical Agility/Versatility
    • Physical Awareness of the audience
    • Physical Characterization
    • Creation and Execution of Blocking

 

  • Rehearsal Process
    • Character Analysis
    • Memorization
    • Staging
    • Rehearsal

 

  • Performance
    • 4-10 minute scenes (contemporary and classical)
    • 2-4 minute monologues (contemporary and classical)
    • One Act performances for school audience
    • Whole group performance for public audience

 

  • Textual Research
    • Scansion and Analysis of classical text
    • Read and Analyze a variety of plays as a class
    • Read and Analyze a variety of plays individually utilizing the classroom or school library
    • View and Analyze live performances
