Course Description

Spanish III is an advanced course.  Students enrolled in this course have completed the first two years of language study and have acquired a basic understanding of structures and limited proficiency.  During this course students refine structures that lead to fluency and develop proficiency through the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  The course is based on the National Foreign Language Standards.  The adopted text and supplementary materials present skills and provide developmental practice.  In order for students to continue studying Spanish, it is imperative to finish at least four units in the text and preferably five.  This course is not designed as a terminal course rather a liaison course for advanced study.

Thematic Vocabulary

  • Vocabulary begins with the student himself and continues in an ever-expanding concentric circle to include depth in the vocabulary needed.
  • Vocabulary is amplified through reading, listening, and conversations of advanced concepts.
  • Vocabulary is based on Pan American Spanish; however, multiple Spanish equivalents are provided as appropriate
    • Vocabulary is relevant to daily life functions as categorized in the functions section
